Late Prof. Syed Hadi Hasan, a Persian scholar and the impeccable doyen of AMU, Aligarh spared no efforts to establish the medical college, whose foundation stone was formally inaugurated by the country's first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in Nov. 1955. and later on completed and inaugurated by Prof. Syed Hadi Hasan himself on 2 October 1962. Its present intake is 150 MBBS students per batch. The medical college library has a collection of more than 50000 books and journals alongwith wi fi and Medlar facility. The Post Graduate education in the medical college was started in 1971. Presently Post Graduate degree is awarded in 22 departments and super specialization in plastic surgery.
At present, JN Medical College ranks among top 30 medical colleges in India
(The Hindu). Under the able and dynamic leadership of present Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah (Retird.), sincere and concerted efforts are underway to upgrade the medical college into an institute of excellence.
