Aligarh and AMU




The eclectic city of Aligarh is situated in western Uttar Pradesh and is an important educational and commercial hub of India. 
It is the place where the famous Mohammedan Anglo Oriental college was founded by the great Muslim social reformer Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in 1877; which later on became the Aligarh Muslim University in 1920. 
Since the inception of university, there has been emphasis on tradition and culture, along with imparting state-of-art education and research. 
The university also has two fully functioning off-campus centres at Mallapuram (Kerala) and Murshidabad (West-Bengal) and a third new campus at Kishanganj (Bihar). 
At present AMU has 12 faculties, 3 centres of advanced learning ,93 departments , 2630 teachers and about 32000 students with 14 halls of residence.
